I’m eating a very complicated salad for lunch right now. It has a bunch of baby lettuces, grilled chicken, wild rice, roasted corn, jicima, cilantro, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, and a fat-free ancho chili/lime dressing. I can’t make up my mind if I like it or not. I sure am meeting my Roughage Quotient for the day, though. Day-amn.

I have this process for counteracting my Evil Play Hookey Voice. Evil Play Hookey Voice accosts me every single morning when Bill wakes me up for work. I womanfully defend myself against Evil Play Hookey Voice, when it whispers seductively in my ear, “Just stay home today. Nobody will miss you. Just stay in this niiiice comfy soft bed and sleeeep…” I tell it, “Just get up, get ready, and go to work. If by noon you just can’t make it, take the rest of the day off and come back home.”

Thus far, I’ve always gone into work. Thus far, I’ve never come home at noon.

I use the same concept with my Evil Don’t Wanna Work Out Voice. “Just get up, get started, and give it ten minutes. If after ten minutes you just can’t pull it off, then you can stop.”

Thus far, whenever I’ve employed this “Ten Minute Rule”, I’ve stuck through to the end of the workout.

Bill will be working up in Flagstaff again the weekend after next, and I will be joining him like I did the last time. I love these little opportunities for weekend getaways that we so often find for ourselves. Well, I’ll be on a getaway. Bill will have to work. But he says having me up there makes the work easier to get through (awww).

He’s going to have to go it alone in Chicago, though. I won’t be joining him after all (sorry, Heather!). Bill being gone and a missed opportunity to see Heather aside, I’m really looking forward to my week off. I’ve told my editor at Beyond Megapixels that I’m taking a vacation week, and UpTake can manage a week without me, so I will be COMPLETELY work-free for the first time since, well, last April. I’ll still blog over here, but hey! That’s not work!

I’m going to take a page from Heather’s book and make absolutely no set plans whatsoever. Heaven!

I pulled the trigger on the purchase of a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Zoom Lens. It’s the same one I used for most of these photos and quite a few of these photos. I’d rented it from Pro Photo Rental and loved it so much that it got bumped up to the top of my lens purchase list. Plus B&H is running a sale (currently out of stock, though). It’s extremely popular – it keeps going out of stock on both Amazon and B&H. I got the ship confirmation this morning, though, so I must have just gotten in under the wire.

Next on the list is to buy the Canon 7D. Then I’ll get one of these telephotos (I’m renting it for Moto GP in August, I SERIOUSLY doubt I’ll be able to afford to buy it before then). Then a wide angle, and a macro, and my lens list will be complete. So, yeah, expect full equipage sometime in 2017 or thereabouts.

WHY can’t I be one of those bloggers who seem to get all kinds of free stuff thrown at them without them even asking??? Hi! I take pretty pictures! Give me things!

I still haven’t made up my mind if I like this salad or not. Now that I’ve picked all of the chicken out of it, I’m thinking not.

Wow. Simultaneous blog-asm – I was posting about my travel plans and stuff at right about the same time!

Tell Bill I promise to leave Heather (and Chicago) in one piece.

  2. Hilly says:

Okay that salad sounds like it could put a serious rumbly in your tumbly!
