I’m in the process of viewing Scott Kelby’s Photo Recipes Live Behind the Scenes: Your Guide to Today’s Most Popular Lighting Techniques. It’s a DVD-ROM with an accompanying workbook, and in it Scott demonstrates the lighting techniques he used to achieve the shots described in his digital photography books. It’s fascinating stuff, I tell you. And it’s giving me gear lust like you read about. HOLY HELL, his Nikon is BEAUTIFUL (it’s the D300s, which isn’t all that expensive, comparatively speaking, and he typically combines it with the 70-200 f/2.8 lens and a battery grip), and he has his hands on all of the best gear – lenses, lights, reflectors, stands, grip heads, tripods, ball heads, you name it.
Dude’s got MAD skills, it’s very easy to see. I totally envy his photography assistants because it would be SO COOL to work with and learn from him. I know I’m going all fangirl up in here, but I make no secret that Scott Kelby is well on his way to being my next secret boyfriend. Move over, Jensen Ackles! Well, not TOO far over…
Mmm… put your hands together…
Anyway. Ahem, yeah. Cool concept, neat DVD, very educational. There are SOME flaws, which I’ll talk about in an upcoming review for Beyond Megapixels. But overall I really like the product.
Wow, I had a weird dream last night. I dreamed that I quit AcronymCo to go work for a smaller company, working with mean people and performing a vague job. I gave no notice, and my former boss (played by William Petersen ala Gil Grissom?!?) was mad because he had to call Jen back from her maternity leave because I left him short handed. Then Jen was trying to e-mail me because I’d taken all of my process binders with me to my new job (which would be an insanely HUGE no-no IRL, like, lawsuit no-no) and she needed them.
That’s all I remember, but when the alarm went off this morning the residual effect of the dream caused me to take several long, slow blinks.
On that note, I leave you with the song that is currently stuck in my head. You’re welcome.
