For Ollie

Posted: November 17, 2009 in Friends, Halp

Jen’s baby Oliver has been in the hospital since last Thursday, and in the NICU since Saturday evening. He has a very bad infection – they think it’s a virus he may have caught from his big brother, and he just didn’t have the ability to fight it off.

At one point the poor baby stopped breathing, and they had to intubate him right in front of his terrified parents. He had seizures and a high fever, so they had him on drugs to keep him knocked out, and had him hooked up to all kinds of monitors and wires, and on a respirator. Jen hasn’t been able to hold him since Saturday. He’s getting his nutrition from a feeding tube.

Then it was a matter of keeping him warm enough, after the fever broke. His blood pressure was dangerously low and the only thing keeping him alive were the meds they used to raise his blood pressure.

According to Jen’s LiveJournal and Facebook, they weaned Oliver off of one of the meds last night and he seems to be stable. Jen is asking for continued prayers, and if you’d like to help, please donate blood in Ollie’s honor (he’s been getting plasma). From Jen, “We don’t need people to donate specifically for Oliver, we would like people to donate to the general blood banks so there is plenty of supply for people like Oliver.”

He’s just 13 days old today. Please keep him, Jen, and their family in your thoughts. Thanks!

I’m joining this ‘prayer chain’ and sending Ollie and the family all my well-est wishes. I’m so glad he seems to be on the mend. I found a blood donation center at Dobson and Eliot and am going to try to donate there. SO sorry to hear all they they are going through.

I’m so sorry to hear that! I wish I could donate blood, but I’m on the “auto-donate only” list because of all the medications that I take. 😦 However, my thoughts will certainly be with little Ollie! *hugs*
