1iconlaughinlizardI am so FRIKKIN GEEKED right now. I FINALLY pulled the trigger on my order for a 50mm f/1.4 lens. It should be here by late next week. Prepare to be regaled with pictures of the cats. And the beardies. And even the dogs, b’gawd! They get very little face time ’round these here parts. Mostly because they’re extremely dirty most of the time. Dirty meaning, you know, dirt, not engaging in risqué behavior.

Perhaps I’ll give them a bath before I shoot them. Shoot meaning, you know, photograph.

My next lens purchase will hopefully be 28-135mm 3.5-5.6, in prep for our MotoGP extravaganza next August. It’s a better “walking around” lens than the kit lens that came with my camera (an 18-55mm), plus it has IS (image stabilization). A telephoto is in order, too, given the subject matter we’ll be photographing – but I’ll probably rent that one.

Work has been unbelievably STUPID this week. It seems like everything that could go awry, has. A tiny, miniscule portion of that may or may not be my own fault as I come up to speed on the stuff I’m covering for Jen while she’s on maternity leave. The disciplines and systems applied to her realm of purchasing are distinctly different from the ones applied to MY realm of purchasing, and having to switch my brain back and forth between the two is kind of slowing me down. I’m sure it will get better in time.

For once, my boss is NOT helping. Usually he’s supportive and helps “remove roadblocks” when they crop up, but for the most part he stays in the background and out of the way. This week he’s kind of gotten micro-managey (other folks in the group have commented on it, too). It’s NOT a good sign to see his name flashing away in my IM window as soon as I log in in the morning. And that’s been the case every morning since Wednesday. It’s probably that he’s getting flack from someone else on HIS end – the trickle-down effect was INVENTED at AcronymCo, I think.

Anyway. The extent of my gratitude for this, the last day of the workweek, spans the length and breadth of… well, something that is lengthy and breadthy. Sure, I have a shit-ton of housework to do, the front and back yards need some maintenance, the truck needs to be washed, I need to go grocery shopping in a big way, that mountain of laundry that needs to be put away has existed in the same condition for over a month now, the snake’s vivarium is downright OOKEY, and I have my scheduled writing to do. But at least I won’t be dealing with AcronymCo.

It’s the same old story. Same old song and dance, my friends.

Everyone around me, including this chickie and this dude and this chickie are all excited about it being Halloween and all. Marie even dressed up in her ladybug costume for work. And the devils and mice and cross-dressers abound at AcronymCo today. All I can say is, meh. At the risk of being disowned by Heather (and Kim too, I think?), Halloween has never been a favorite “holiday” of mine. Maybe it would be different if the grandbabies were still around and we had them to drag from house to house to beg for candy. As it is, our neighborhood has very few small children – the doorbell ringers of the past few years have been older teenagers who haven’t bothered to even dress up, they’re just demanding candy. So we’re not giving out candy this year. Lights out, hide in the house, not answering the door… kind of like the way we avoid the Jehovah’s Witnesses!

Despite our indifference, I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween. And if you’re indifferent like us, good luck avoiding the chaos, and have a great weekend!

I like Halloween, I just don’t get into it like I could. I suppose if we had a life it would be nice to go out to a party with friends, but first we’d have to get a life, then get friends, etc etc. 😉

WOO on the lens! I will keep quiet on this news until this weekend when I can try to use it on Dys as an aphrodisiac. 😀

There was a Pimps and Ho’s party at Sandstone, but we left before it really got rolling. Now, if we all lived in the same state, every weekend would be occupied!

You would like Halloween better where I grew up, where the beggars must tell jokes for candy. I always loved it as a kid and even more as an adult: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091030/ap_on_re_us/us_jokes_for_treats

We get around 200 trick-or-treaters through our neighborhood. It’s awesome. And you can’t forget the giant jack-o-lantern display! And adult costume parties at houses and bars and scary movies and…and…and…(breathe) 😀

Congrats on the lens! I hope you two will be very happy together. I have to order a new lens cap for mine. Can’t find it anywhere…

Your neighborhood is nuts, NUTS I tell you! And Calvin was worried about what kind of picture you’d send me NEXT… fortunately it was just jello shots. ~grin~

Frick, wasn’t I constantly losing my lens cap when I was out visiting you? Gotta put a bell on them things, I swear.

I am with you on Halloween. Totally. This will be our third Halloween here, and the second time I haven’t bothered to turn the lights on. (The first year I got all excited with a big bucket of candy and got 3 14-year-olds all night.) And I just don’t dig the costume thing now that I’m a grownup. My Halloween experience peaked when I dressed up as a crayon at the tender age of two.

    • Laura says:

      Aww, what color crayon?

My favorite costume was the clown costume that my Grandmother made me when I was about ten or so. As a matter of fact, I think that’s the last time I went trick-or-treating.

I’ve been in a snit the past week or so, and it’s taking it’s toll on my spirits. Halloween is my absolute favorite time of year! But this year, I’m just not into it. Yesterday, I tried to lift my spirits a bit. In our bass-ackwards part of the country (in the PA Bible Belt), our politicians decide which day is designated for trick-or-treating. This year, even though Halloween is on a Saturday, these dipwads decided Friday night is the best night. Grrr. So, we prepared ourselves with candy, set up oil lamps outside on our porch, and got dressed up. In 2 hours, we had 4 families show up. Maybe 10 kids total. I am so bummed today, I can barely stand myself. I should be cleaning, or packing, or doing ANYthing constructive. But I just. don’t. care. Bleh!

    • Laura says:

Awww, I’m sorry to hear that you’re down. Something good will happen to turn it all around, I promise!

Now, I never did understand some towns ability to just change the day that Halloween occurs on. What gives? What difference does it make, anyway? And how often do some folks not get the message, and the kids are disappointed because they missed trick or treating? It’s just weird.

      • Shelli says:

The only good thing right now (unless a miracle happens, and summer starts tomorrow), would be a call from our realtor to tell us that we can get go look at a new place we kinda have our hearts set on. *fingers crossed*

So, PA isn’t the only place that does that stupid shit on Halloween? Yeah, I’ve always wondered about that, especially with people new to the area that don’t know to check the paper. The next county over does things normally, so my Son got 2 nights! LOL

        • iamheatherjo says:

Nope, your county isn’t the only one who likes to move Halloween! They did that in our area one year that the holiday landed on a Sunday. I guess some folks didn’t like that idea so they changed it to Saturday in some towns…but not ALL of them. So, lots of kids in neighboring places got to go twice that year.
