1icondontapproveI have a complaint. I threatened to reveal all to the Innernets unless I got a satisfactory response. I did not.

Hence.

So, several months ago Calvin purchased a performance chip from SLR Motorsports, to install in our new Trailblazer. We paid our $75, received the chip, and realized it wasn’t what we were looking for. So, following the instructions of the return policy, I sent the chip back and requested a refund.

That was back in September.

Since then I have followed up with them three times, trying to find out the status of our refund. I sent e-mails in October, November, and December. They haven’t responded to any of them. There is no customer service line to call, just an e-mail address or a contact form on their website.

Contrary to what they claimed on their website and in their e-mails to us, installing this performance chip into our truck would have voided the warranty – a fact I’m glad we twigged on before we did the installation. We returned the product, they haven’t refunded the money, and they haven’t responded to our multiple queries.

So, I’m tellin’.

My gentle snowflakes, do me a favor, would you? Tell five people NOT to buy from SLR Motorsports. As I said in the e-mail I sent to them, in this day and age you’d think a company would be smarter about treating its customers with courtesy and respect.

Don’t mess with me. I have the power of the internet on my side.

Not much gets my hackles up (whatever hackles are) as poor customer service. I’m sorry you’re having such a hassle with this – not only will I tell five people, I’ll have a t-shirt made up with “SLR Motorsports sucks big dicks” on it if you think that’ll help.

  2. Laura says:

Kim – You are AWESOME. That’d do just fine. 😀

  3. AmyD says:

Surely there has to be somewhere somehow that you can make a formal complaint with some sort of authoritative agency or something!

    Good grief!!!

I’m updating my post for today!

  5. Laura says:

Amy – You’re the best! Yes, I’m going to report them to the BBB, and also contest the charge with my bank. Fuckers.

Heheh. Don’t piss off motorheads. (Google Charlie Wenzel if you really want to find out what can happen. And be prepared to spend hours.)

People should gently ask them to take a look at this post. Like civilized folk. Maybe then invite them to dinner to discuss the issue. Where, as I learned from Robert DeNiro in The Untouchables, it’s much easier to hit them in the head with a bat.

    Good luck.

  10. Laura says:

Boundandgags – BWA! That was totally gross, in an awesome way.

“Sunny day, the stands are full of fans. What does he have to say? I’m goin’ out there for myself. But… I get nowhere unless the team wins.”

    Warning about SLR Motorsports!
At this point it has nothing to do with the money it was only $75 should have know better.
It’s all about the customer service and shitty product they provide at SLR Motorsports.
I thought I would give them a try and if I did not like it I would just send it back to SLR Motorsports.
You know your in trouble when you open the package and there is this little black box with wires hanging out of it and the instructions tell you to contact your dealer to determine which wires to cut.
They were nice enough to include butt splices and a warning that if you cut the wrong wire you “could” destroy your cars computer.
I think it will be funny to Google them and see how many of these comments show up on the same page.
    Thanks everyone!

I, like Laura bought two chips from SLR in Nov. 2008. When one was installed and showed nothing, I got a Return Authorized # and returned it. Each month I email a request for “where is my money”. No response.
    TOTAL CROOKS!!

  14. thomas says:

Well shit, i geuss i got screwed, it was not what i expected ethier, and from the sound of it there is no use trying to return the “little black box”

  15. Hank says:

I’m glad I did a review search on SLR performance chip before I purchased it. I kinda thought it was to good to be true…like the old saying goes “if it smells like poop it probably is poop” Just about everything I buy now gets a review search. Thanks everyone

  16. Sally says:

In Nov. 2009 I also got ripped off by SLR motorsports when I bought a performance chip. It did not fit my truck I returned it according to there return policy and I emailed several times they never responed back. I filed a formal complaint with the Florida state attorney general office ( http://www.my florida legal.com ) Then go to online complaint. Also I filed a complaint with the BBB in Florida.
(www.bbb west florida .org ) online complaint. Also you can file a complaint with (IC3. gov) I am waiting to hear from either office as to their investigation.
I suggest everyone file these complaints against SLR motorsports.

  17. Kevin says:

I bought the SLR motorsports chip. I took it apart. It is a stacked resister, costs 50 cents at Radio Shack. I am a smart consumer and got scammed. Tell a friend, tell an enemy: “SLR motorsports is a scam!”

  18. Sam says:

Thank God for the internet! I was about to order the chip from SLR until I read this post. It proves the old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.” Thank you all for your posts. Keep up the fight!

  19. Jacob and Rose says:

we recently purchased a chip from SLR motorsports, and are in the process of returning it. we used paypal to purchase our chip and while going over how to return the item we found a phone number. the lady i talked to was not employed by SLR but rather by the cash2 people that took the money out of our account. she said that if SLR was not in contact with us within 48 hours to call that number back and she would further assist us. that number is (877) 294-0273. i hope this works for the rest of you. i know you said that there was no number to contact them, but this is better than nothing!

The domain may give you a lead to track down a the registered business or owner. Call the IRS on them. Also call state attorney general or local congressman. Find an address and owner through the town. Start calling the home of the owner. If no luck start calling the Mayor of Tarpon Springs. As someone said it’s not the $75 bucks, its the principle.

  22. Peter Tountas says:

The so-called performance chip from SLR cannot possibly work. I have been in the auto business for over 25 years, but stupid me, I ordered one of the things. It does not work and cannot work. The only good thing about this “adventure” is that I blocked the payment. Good thing about having the right kind of credit card.

There are reputable companies that make performance chips. Most of the time you are required to open up the computer box and replace the chip. And it is not a little black box with two wires coming out of it. A good resource for location a good performance chip manufacture is through Hot Rod Magazine. Keep in mind that performance chips are not made for all vehicles.

  23. Chris says:

It sounds like you did not do your homework prior to making this decision. That being said, how is this a scam exactly? Sounds like you may have experienced some poor customer service, but you have made it seem as though the product did or does not work. I do hope that you get your money back and I also hope that you do more research before deciding to purchase another performance product.

  24. Bill says:

Chris your right we probably did not do our homework in this case.
This is a scam because SLR made claims that as Peter stated above are not possible with or from the product they send you.
A true performance chip is a plug in replacement to your cars OEM processor SLR sends you a resistor and some butt splices. All this does is alter the electric signal when you splice it inline. Even if it is properly installed you will void the factory warranty (we checked with the dealer) and if you make a mistake while installing or when or if the resistor fails you can and will cause damage to the cars PCM.
If you wish to buy something made buy a guy working out of his Mom’s basement good luck, you get what you pay for.
