Blogiversary, and an assignment.

Eight years ago today I somehow got it in my head that pouring my heart, mind, and soul out for all the internet and my mother-in-law and GOD to read would be a good idea.

That was when it was born within my husband the wish that his wife was a more private person. Private with MY personal details, and private with HIS. And private with OURS.

I’ve always kept a diary or a journal of some sort. Always, for as far back as I can remember. I just didn’t always let EVERYONE IN THE WORLD read it.

Hi, world population.

On-line journaling started as a whim that turned into a hobby that’s resulted in a NEED to keep going. There’s no end in site. Even after all of my loyal readers are long gone, driven away by the tedium and OVERSHARING and the change from HTML to Blogger to WordPress to who knows what next. I’ll keep going. Entertaining the ether with witty dialogue and amusing anecdotes. Or, you know, boring the hell outta the very fabric of existence.

Love you guys. Here’s to eight more years, times ten.

(By the way, go amuse yourselves over at my Best Of section. I tried to narrow down eight years’ worth of entries to a choice selection. Really. I DID try. Honest. Can I help it if my writing is so riveting that almost ALL of them qualify?)

Here’s what I want you guys to do.

In celebration of this eight-year milestone, I’m looking for volunteers to write guest entries. That’s right! I’m celebrating all this writing I’ve done by NOT WRITING. You get to do it instead. I need five volunteers to write for five days (one person, one entry per day), for the week starting September 22nd and ending September 26th. You can write about anything you want. Anything at all. I won’t even censor (or spell check) you.

Volunteer in the comments, or shoot me an e-mail. Volunteer submissions begin NOW and will end Friday September 19th at 12:00 noon (to give me time to tell the person who gets to write Monday’s entry). I will randomly select the lucky “winners” (hah, if I even get more than five volunteers) by making Calvin pull names out of a hat. Or a bowl. Or some other container we have hanging around.

I expect the Internet to be taken down with the enthusiasm of your volunteering. Like what happened with Dr. Horrible. I have at LEAST as many fans as Joss does, right?

  1. Taoist Biker says:

I can probably pull something out of my rear for this if need be.

Unless you need it to be something witty, or charming, or remotely interesting.

  2. Kim says:

    Pick me, pick me!
(I’m high on Nyquil right now, so I’m feeling brave ‘n sassy!

  3. Laura says:

TB – Now why would I need any of that? ~grin~ Fanks!

Kim – You’re in the running!

Jean – Your name’s in the hat!

  4. Sharon says:

What a great idea. I think it would be fun to guest write on your site. I am sure I have read every one of your posts and I think you are fabulous. I have always wanted to start my own on-line journal so what a great way to start with a kind of “practice run”.

  5. […] mention of the Seventh Anniversary, but here’s other stuff happening in that timeframe. – The Eighth Anniversary, when I made you guys write guest posts so I could be a slacker for a week. – A big, yooge recap […]
